Vintage Articulated Shadow Puppets, Wayang Purwa, Balinese White & Red Rod Puppets.
These double-sided hand cut and pierced animal skin shadow puppets are dramatically imagined for the theatre. The shadow puppets are cut and painted as striking characters with bold colors and gilt highlights. Both puppets have articulated movement and are led by rods. The white puppet has movement in both arms.
Measurements: Both Total- H 28” x W 12
Red (puppet without rods)– H 20” x W 12”
White (puppet without rods)– H18.5” x W 11.5”
These rod puppets are both in very good condition. Wear due to age and use.
Wajang, is an important form of puppet theatre art found in parts of Southeast Asia, wherein a dramatic story depicting mythology is told through shadows thrown by puppets and sometimes combined with human characters, often accompanied by cultural instruments.
