Chinese landscape scroll, freely drawn colored inks on heavy paper, mounted on a shimmering gold, silver and copper, silk brocade … Read more Chinese landscape scroll, freely drawn colored inks on heavy paper, mounted on a shimmering gold, silver and copper, silk brocade in a dragon and fenghuang medallions pattern, signed, with three short poems and numerous red seal marks in various sizes and shapes scattered about the top and bottom of the image. In the left foreground a man crosses a bridge over a small stream on a path that leads to a nature-viewing hut nearby. Extensive rocky outcrops supporting a grove of leafy trees and pines fills the bottom of the image. In the right foreground behind the grove there is a residential compound of several buildings, and above, a figure walking along cloud capped riverbanks that begin at the punchbowl waterfall on the left side, and are partly hidden by the low cloudbank. Massive palisades dotted with sparse habitats of trees, grasses and bushes, surround the waterfall and soar into the heavens, fading into distance in traditional Chinese aerial perspective. The image size is 25 1/8" wide x 50 1/4" high. With a dark silk hanging cord and storage cord at the top and dark coffee brown jikusaki at the bottom. The outer silk brocade scroll covering repeats the design of the silk brocade painting mount. Circa early 20th century, no later than mid century. See less
