Chinese landscape scroll, freely drawn colored inks on heavy paper, mounted on a gold, gray and silk brocade in a … Read more Chinese landscape scroll, freely drawn colored inks on heavy paper, mounted on a gold, gray and silk brocade in a dragon medallions pattern, signed, with three poems in Chinese caoshu script and numerous red seal marks scattered about the top and bottom of the image. In the foreground a mountain retreat sits on a small plateau above a river, surrounded by a pine forest and rocky outcrops dotted with grasses and shrubs. Close to the retreat a massive palisade dotted with sparse habitats and pine groves rises steeply along the right side of the image. The grassy hills of the farther shoreline on the left side of the image are covered with pine groves and forests, and gently rise to higher massifs fading to distance in traditional Chinese aerial perspective. The image size is 25" wide x 50" high. With a black silk hanging cord and storage cord at the top and black jikusaki at the bottom. The outer scroll cover is a gold colored raw silk. Circa early 20th century, no later than mid century. See less
