Antique 1800's portable candle holder made by English Silver maker Elkington & Co. Marked "Elkington & Co. 5633A" on the back and Elkington brand stamp on the front.
Candle opening is 1".
Elkington & Co. started in Birmingham as a company of silversmiths in 1836. In 1838 Elkington & Co. patented a new way to electroplate wares and in 1851 exhibited at the Great Exhibition with great success. In 1963 the company merged with Walker & Hall and Mappin & Webb to become British Silversmiths, Ltd. The Elkington mark was retired after the merge making these pieces even more collectable.
