Hand woven in high quality wool, the medallion field design employs an iconic pomegranate shrub design, symbolizing fertility, abundance, and growth and the distinct choice of pomegranate red on beige further reflects this imagery. The sharp geometric spandrels at the corners of the field also indicate Oriental influence in the design, as special Khotan weavers have been known to feature Buddhist and Islamic imagery in their rugs.
