This totally fun peace would have been made by the Maranao people in the late 1800s to early 1900s and would’ve been a gift from the grooms relatives to the brides family and would’ve held ceremonial gifts for the wedding festival. This particular one appears to be tin or silver plated over copper and brass plated or gilded over copper in places, very hard to tell as it is heavily oxidized probably from being close to the water and simply from time. Oxidation could be brushed off with a soft brush if somebody wanted to but I left it on as I feel it is part of the charm of the piece. The rusticity is what drew it to me in the first place and then when you get up close and see the detail and intricacy - I was done. All applied decoration was formed by hand using wire- really incredible artistry. See less
