Highly popular watercolorist Sanford (Samp) Brooks (1915-1994), a long time resident of Cincinnati Ohio, graduated from Yale in 1939 with a degree in architecture. He began his painting career in the 50s and became quite proficient after studying with J. Philip Olmes in Cincinnati, Lawrence Sisson in Boothbay Harbor, and Edgar Whitney in Maine. He was a member of the prestigious American Watercolor Society, exhibited widely and his paintings are held in many important private and corporate collections. Brooks eventually taught art classes at local high schools and Wilmington College, Cincinnati Art Academy, and the Men’s Art Club in Cincinnati. He and his wife are featured artist in a book on watercolor by Edgar Whitney, “learn Watercolor the Edgar Whitney Way”. Additionally, Brooks was often asked by Whitney to demonstrate techniques to his art classes. See less
