Halleux has captured a particularly calm morning with barely enough wind to move the gaff-rigged sloops and cutters to the outer banks. The wind-swept clouds above show a promise of a stronger breeze to come. Halleux has used a relatively monochromatic palette to represent the interface between sky and sea, with a more vibrant palette to contrast the vessels and their sails to create an interesting visual effect. Survives in its original frame.
