Grigory Roshin, a Moscow native, was born in 1956, graduated from art school in 1985, and continues to live and work in the Russian capital city to this day.
"Where did this guy get his Spanish melancholy!" - these words, attributed to a Soviet poet famous in the thirties, could be an epigraph of the canvases of Gregory Roshin. Where did this artist get his nostalgia for Holland? Where are these visions from? Since he never left Russia, they are from his dreams. He only saw Holland in pictures. There isn't anything similar among the famous original Dutch paintings. Roshin's works are his visions, his dreams.
The artist has a good hand, but more importantly, a great vision. His masterful paintings project the atmosphere of the time. The aura of the past pierces Roshin’s evocative canvases. See less
