With its geometric pattern and rich colors, this hand knotted wool antique Persian Malayer was woven in the village of Mishan and considered to be exceptional due to its high knot density and high quality wool. Mishan Malayer rugs are also characterized by their refined color palette from the dyeing process. Similar to designs and quality of the Farahan region, Mishan Malayer rugs only have one weft inserted after each row of knots instead of a double weft, making them soft, flexible and less susceptible to breakage than the Farahan rugs. This antique Mishan Malayer Persian rug features a central hexagon medallion flanked with long extended lozenges at either end. An all-over Herati pattern is spread across the abrashed red field.
