My Book to Help America by Munro Leaf. Racine, WI: Whitman Publishing Company, 1942.
Trade paperback. First Edition. Softcover. [32] pp. Bound in red, white + blue pictorial stapled wraps. Illustrated on every page by the author. Published in the Second World War, this book helped the war effort by encouraging children to buy war bonds. The back cover contained a War Savings Stamp book (which is missing) which the child was to fill in and buy a Savings Bond. A full book cost $18.75 which bought a $25 Bond.
Wilbur Monroe Leaf (a.k.a. Munro Leaf) (December 4, 1905 – December 21, 1976) was an American author of children's literature who wrote and illustrated nearly 40 books during his 40-year career. He is best known for The Story of Ferdinand (1936), a children's classic which he wrote on a yellow legal-length pad in less than an hour. He also wrote the book, Noodle, about a dachshund.
