Rare Napoleon III gilded wooden four-leaf folding screen upholstered on one side with a vintage Madeleine Castaing striped fabric and on the other side with a green linen velvet reminiscent of the decoration of Hubert de Givenchy's private mansion (Hôtel d'Orrouer, Paris, France). This screen was part of a former Parisian decoration by Madeleine Castaing. Madeleine Castaing (1894-1992) was an internationally renowned French antique dealer and interior designer. She was a friend and patron of many artists, including Modigliani, Picasso, Jean Cocteau and Soutine, who painted her portrait now in the Metropolitan Museum in New York. Original and whimsical, she revolutionised the world of decoration by creating the Castaing style, which is a reference today. She was the mentor of Jacques Grange.
