"A little history:

Gilbert Metenier was born in 1876 in Moulins, son of Louis Metenier, born in 1844, Potier and Ceramist installed in Gannat in Allier.
He succeeds his father in 1920 and will rename the starstry sandstone.

From 1928 to 1940, the workshop had 11 to 13 workers of both sexes.
The kaolin necessary for the manufacture of sandstones came from the beauvoir deposit in the woes.
The enamellation of the pieces, carried out mainly in the brush, required chemical powders supplied by the Rhône-Poulenc factories.

No catalog of production both utility and decorative is known;
Customers received and representatives had sketches or photographs - due to the Local Jules Faucheux photographer - separate or group parts, especially for wedding gifts.
Representatives also had miniature samples of vase models to showcase the engobe and available colors.
It should be noted that the red color seems not to have existed in production.

The art sandstone produced by Gilbert Metenier widely used the techniques of iriding and crystallizations (crystalline enamels) for the decoration of surfaces.

The activity continued until 1940, when Gilbert Metenier would have destroyed all the mussels "so that they do not fall to the occupant's hands";
