Copper artifacts dating back to 9,000 B.C. have been found in the Middle East. Ancient Egyptians used copper to make water and oil storage vessels.
This set is a traditional, Handmade egyptian copper cooking pot (bean pot) with copper fire box burner and lid used, even nowadays, to cook the Egyptian national dish-ful mudammas. Some say that the word mudammas was originally Coptic, meaning "buried," and its use here might mean that the beans are buried in the pot.

This rare complete set is hand fabricated from two (2) heavy gauged hammered and heat welded sheets of copper. Its unique design is ancient, efficient, and still used in the modern era. This is heavy and well built. Brass handles are also hand crafted and accent its superb and beautiful construction. Rugged yet aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

Acquired from a dealer in Cairo/Egypt by one of our ancestors who served with the 3rd Battalion, Royal Regiment of Scotland, in World War I.

Measurements: Pot: 11inches high; 12 inches diameter handle to handle (28 cm x 30 ½ cm) Fire box burner: 5 ½ inches (14 cm) Total high 16 ½ inches (42 cm).

Condition: Very good for age. Signs of traditional usage and age. Shows normal soot mostly at the bottom (amorphous carbon, produced by the incomplete burning of organic matter). The pot displays some minor dents from obvious use, as shown in the photos. But, it is still very solid, functional, and a real conversation Piece Item has not been cleaned or repaired. Item is sold in the same condition as inherited.
