moreNothing like the look of someone with confidence and it glows from this watercolor and pencil portrait. It is possibly a self portrait of the artist. Carefully framed in an oak frame with a linen fillet strip, it is signed verso over a rather amatuer painting (by another artist). The artist board was used as a backing for the framing. Economy at it's best! Attached are several papers with biographical info on the artist, one written on her own typewriter.
Catherine Figart (1916 Singapore=2008 NY) was an American fashion artist and veteran. Figart studied at the Art Students League, Traphagen School of Art and Grand Central Art School all in New York City. She exhibited in the metro area. She worked fashion artist for Vogue's Pattern Book Art Department in the early 1950s and in the same capacity and as art director for several other art and publishing housing, most notably Maryknoll Magazine. A lifetime of work was donated on her passing to her parrish. This is one of the works coming from that sale in 2008. less
