Bold figurative gouache by Argentinean artist, Hector Basaldua (September 29, 1895-February 21, 1976)
This charming figurative gouache painting depicts Parisian lady in cycling bloomers alongside her bicycle. Signed lower right. Dated 1961.
Presented in acid free neutral color matting, silver metal frame under glass. Paris Exhibition label on reverso

Hector Basadula, painter; printmaker; stage designer and illustrator was born in Perfamuno, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina.
In 1914, he studied in the capital city at the private academy of the Italian artist Bolognini and later at thevNational Academy if Fine Arts under Pio Colivadino. Between 1923-1930, he studied in Paris under Charles Guerin, Andre Loty and Othen Friesz. He exhibited at the School of Paris and local exhibitions in Paris.
Basaldua received a gold medal for stage design at the Paris International Exhibition in 1937 and 1st prize for painting at the Argentina National Salin of Plastic Arts. In 1946 he visited United States to study theatre techniques and was the designer of opera and ballet sets at the Tetro Colon, Buenos Aires. A retrospective of his works held in 1980 at the National Museum of Fine Arts. His works are held in San Francisco SOMA Museum and National Gallery,,
