Set of six, mid-century modern, first edition brazilian rosewood dining chairs, with seats made of danish paper cord, designed by niels otto møller for j.l. Møller møbelfabrik, denmark, circa 60's.
these iconic chairs are some of the best to have come out of the scandinavian/danish modern movement, that were handmade and designed in 1962.
acquired from the sole, original owner, this set is in excellent original and vintage condition, with some light traces and marks of age and use commensurate with time, on the structure (see photos), and carries a beautiful, original patina of time. the structures have been completely cleaned, treated and oiled with linseed oil.
the seats are in impeccable condition, because they have been completely redone and restored by hand, by one of the rare artisans who have mastered the technique and skill, for matching the original design of the seats (see photos.) the natural, beige-colored paper cord, was ordered from denmark and has a thickness of 3.5 mm. The restoration of the seats required more than 40 hours of work, and more than 6 months of patience.
rosewood models such as these, are increasingly difficult to obtain, as rosewood is now no longer allowed for the manufacturing of furniture, as it's a protected species.
all 6 chairs carry both of their original, 2, maker's stamps (see photos.)
please note: after being restored, we contacted the headquarters of j.l. Møllers møbelfabrik, in denmark, and submitted images of the restoration work done. The response was very positive and complimentary. Additionally, the representative we communicated with, verified that these chairs are indeed, an early addition of this model, as they were handmade and not wood moulded, like later models. We have full confirmation from the current director of jl moller.
due to current regulation with sale and regulation to protect endangered species such as brazilian rosewood,
it is illegal to sell nor own protected or endangered wood species without a clearance permit.
the chairs will be sold with proof of authenticity, full id, certificate stamped and approved by cites this piece has an attribution mark,
