Eastwood's first big american film after achieving international stardom in sergio leone's dollar's trilogy, hang 'em high was also the first picture produced by his newly-formed production company malpaso, through which the prolific filmmaker continues to produce the majority of his projects to this day. Directed by ted post, who had worked with a young eastwood on the tv series rawhide, the gritty revisionist western was a huge box-office success, surpassing even the james bond films at that time to become distributor united artists' biggest opening to date.
