This early Qing Dynasty official's hat armchair or wedding chair is from Shanxi, China and dates to 1800 to 1849. Though made during the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1912), the design of the chair is from the Ming Dynasty (1368 -1644). Though it’s made from a premium softwood (Yang Mu) and not an exotic hardwood (such as Huang Huali) it’s a fine specimen in a good state of preservation. It’s all-original with no added parts, no new finish added. The finish is well worn in an appropriate way and the original antique patina is quite lovely.
