Historical Wall Hanging Décor of Handstitched Egyptian Tapestry Khayamiya with Marsh Scene On The Nile Quilt Applique Patchwork with Lotus Blossoms, Birds, Fish and Pharaonic Figures.
Detailed images of family members holding lotus blossoms from tomb of Menna. The act of throwing a throwstick in ancient Egyptian is qema, for the Egyptians this would recall the word qema meaning ‘to create’ or ‘to beget.’ In the same way the word for spearing fish is set, which resembles another word seti meaning ‘to impregnate.’ The wild birds in these scenes represent chaos. By hunting these birds, the male figure is restoring order. Menna is shown as youthful, energetic figure. This suggests the hope to have a similar, youthful forms in the eternities.
Due to its prevalence in the Nile Delta, the papyrus was the heraldic plant of Lower (northern) Egypt, while the lily or lotus stood for Upper (southern) Egypt.
Khayamiya Egyptian traditional crafts is the ancient craft of making huge tent pavilions, out of appliquéd cloth patterns carried on for hundreds of years. This patchwork (tentmakers) is entirely handmade of Egyptian cotton and linen.
