Brooks, a … Read more Highly popular Cincinnati watercolorist Sanford (Samp) Brooks (1915-1994) large original watercolor of a waterfall in a woodland setting.
Brooks, a long time resident of Cincinnati Ohio, graduated from Yale in 1939 with a degree in architecture. He began his painting career in the 50s and became quite proficient after studying with J. Philip Olmes in Cincinnati, Lawrence Sisson in Boothbay Harbor, and Edgar Whitney in Maine. He exhibited widely and his paintings are held in many important private and corporate collections. Brooks eventually taught art classes at local high schools and Wilmington College, Cincinnati Art Academy, and the Men’s Art Club in Cincinnati. He and his wife are featured artist in a book on watercolor by Edgar Whitney, “learn Watercolor the Edgar Whitney Way”. Additionally, Brooks was often asked by Whitney to demonstrate techniques to his art classes.
This painting is unsigned but purchased with a collection of other signed pieces from the artist’s estate. See less
