This is a Hard-To-Find, VINTAGE, EXCELLENT Condition, Marked "Japanese Nippon Ceramic Porcelain Beaded Moriage Floral Motif Three Leaf Clover Flower Design Lidded Covered Trinket Jewelry Storage Stash Box" Hand Painted and made in Japan in the early-1900s. Part of my friend's Great-Grandmothers Trinket Box collection, she purchased this FABULOUS Covered Box during a trip "to the Orient" in 1921. Both used and displayed through the mid-1960s when the collection was packed away, it is recently rediscovered; it has been safely and securely stored for over 45 years. It is in EXCELLENT Condition and EXQUISITELY painted with bright, vivid colors and gilded accents. This LOVELY Art Nouveau Nippon Trinket Box has NO marks, stains, odors, paint wear, chips, cracks, crazing or other damage; it comes from a smoke-free, pet-free home. This BEAUTIFUL, hand painted ANTIQUE Trinket Box was made by I.E.C. & Co prior to 1925 when they went out of business; it bears their "Green Wreath - Japan on top - IE&C Co on either side of a central small diamond shape, the C being in the Diamond and the Co below the diamond - Painted below the Wreath" Mark with fancy lettering that dates this piece to the early-1900s to the early-1920s. With a diameter of approximately 4 1/4 inches, it stands on three legs and is approximately 2 7/8th inches tall; the bottom of the Box is Marked as noted above.
This fancy Trinket Jewelry Box was hand-painted with a gold and green three leaf clover design. The upper edge of both the box and lid are scalloped with the lid having a raised Moriage Dot design accenting a yellow glazed rim edge panel. The GRACEFUL and PRETTY Green & Gold Clover Leaf Flowers and leaves design is hand painted with what I would consider an up market, art nouveau design typical of the early-1900s. This is a FANTASTIC, UNIQUE Trinket Jewelry Box done with green and gold that really POPS against the white background! With delicate artistry and a style that is FABULOUS, this Trinket Jewelry Box was EXQUISITELY painted and glazed all around and inside by a skilled artisan; the mark on the bottom dates it to the early-1900s through mid-1920s.
This Jewelry Trinket Box is of very high quality and should be sought after by avid collectors. With artistic appeal and merit, this porcelain Trinket Jewelry Box bearing the I.E.&C. Co Japan Hand Painted mark is typical of the meticulous attention to detail they paid to decorating their porcelain, making it IDEAL for display in any room at home or work. There is a mystery that surrounds IE&C Co hand painted porcelain. Their pieces where made with much appeal and artistic merit but they NEVER registered their trademark and most of their pieces were sold in Japan or exported to Australia so as not to compete with Noritake making information difficult to find. Early pieces of IE&C Co porcelain has an ashen color (1885 - early-1900s) while later pieces (early-1900s through 1925 when the closed) were a clear white porcelain (Like This Box). Known for their meticulous attention to detail, their pieces were of Art Nouveau styling which ended with the Art Deco era. IE&C Co porcelain products could match the best of the best being produced at that time. The closed their doors in 1925 partially because they chose not to join the Art Deco kick, but mostly because they were no longer able to compete once the "industrial revolution" and modernization changed the porcelain industry. As painstaking efforts were required to produce their items, this level of artistic commitment made it impossible to accommodate the new modernization and they simple closed down.
