This large urn was used to store long twists or plugs of tobacco. Decorated with a West Indian or American Indian figure symbolizing the Americas with other decoration referring to the tobacco trade. In the second half of the 18th century, tobacconists became important clients of the Dutch delftware factories. The various types of tobacco were stored in this type of jar decorated with the name of the variety on the front. Good condition - expected crazing. Measures 10" tall. See less
