This set of two " Michelangelo and Leonardo " rare vintage 1978 first edition lithograph print collector's hardcover Renaissance art books is an incredibly special and unique set to add to your library collection.
The hardcover books with laminated cover boards and dust jacket are published by Avnel Books New York, printed in Italy in 1978 by Fabri Editori Milan. Authored by Simonetta Rasponi ( Michelangelo ) and Mina Bacci ( Leonardo ).
The magnificently illustrated volumes in this series have been complied, edited, and produced by one of Europes finest quality publishers. each book contains 63 offset lithograph print illustrations, most of them in full color. Authoritative background texts on the lives and works of the artists, and interpretative notes on each example of the art are included. The color plates have been carefully reproduced from selections of the artists' finest work.
Michelangelo Do Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni ( 1475 - 1564 ) was an Italian sculptor, painter, architect and poet of The High renaissance born in Florence, whose work had a major influence on the development of Western Art, particularly in relation to the notions of Humanism and Naturalism. He is often considered a contender for the title of the archetypal Renaissance Man, along with his rival and elder contemporary Leonardo Da Vinci. Given the sheer volume of his surviving work, Michelangelo is among the best documented artists of The 16th Century and described by many scholars as the most accomplished artist of his era.
Leonardo Di Ser Piero Da Vinci ( 1452 - 1519 ) was an Italian Polymath scholar of The High Renaissance who was an active painter, draftsman, engineer, scientist, theorist, sculptor and architect. While his fame rested n his achievements as a painter, he also became known for his notebooks on a variety of subjects including anatomy, astronomy, botany, cartography, painting, and paleontology. Leonardo's genius epitomized the Renaissance Humanist ideal, and his collective works compose a contribution to later generations of artists matched only by that of his younger contemporary Michelangelo.
The rare out of print 1st edition hardcover art books each measure 10" W X 12" h X 1/2" D, with 80 pages each, printed on high quality premium paper stock.
