The vases are made of white Arabescato marble, powder-coated metal, and glass. They are unique pieces. The big vase measures 26 cm high with a 17 cm diameter and the small vase is 14 cm high with a 17 cm diameter.
The collaborative project between Bloc studios and ECAL started in April 2016. The intensive workshop took place over the course of one week. The initial brief, entitled Rational balance had over 30 students searching for innovative designs, which they had to present the following Friday to Bloc studios’ creative director, Sara Ferron Cima.
Rational balance:Marble is commonly related to notions of weight, stability, robustness, additionally to being a luxurious material. What new ideas can we come up with to reveal both new and functional properties? Ecal x Bloc Studios dived into this problem by focusing firstly on marble’s best applications and trying to express the sensations of either balance or weight, while at the same time taking into account the material’s innate properties.
