Significant artwork realized by the father of the Italian Pop movement depicting a lonely lamb in the middle of nature. The landscape is characterized by warm colors and a bright contrast between the red soil and the extremely gloomy blue sky. The figure of the lamb is embossed and emerges on the surface of the painting, as a sculpture. The Lamb, a symbol of innocence, represents the authenticity and the purity of the animal in contrast with the brutality of the human nature. This work has been realized by Mario Schifano (Homs, 1934 - Rome, 1998). Schifano made his debut in the exhibition at ''Salita di Roma'', presented by Pierre Restany in 1960. It attracts many critics by creating monochrome paintings which give the idea of screen. He signed an exclusive contract with Ileana Sonnabend. In 1962, he made his first trip to the United States where he was attracted by artists like Franz Kline, he frequented Frank O'Hara, Jasper Johns, Rothko, Andy Warhol, Gregory Corso. He participated in the exhibition ''The New Realists'' at the Sidney Janis Gallery in New York. After two solo shows in Rome and Paris, he returned to the United States. In the elaboration of his artworks, the artist prefers to use colors of industrial production for their ability to preserve their brilliance. See less
