The title of the work is engraved inside the matrix in the center, whilst the inscription “J.C.J.Friedrich Dresdensis sculpsit secundum Piranesi” appears on the left, below the image. On the lower right, in pencil, outside the matrix, there is the inscription “Friedrich Johann-Christian-Jacob/1747-1813.” The artwork is in good conditions, except for some tiny stains on the higher right outside the image and on the right margin. On the higher and left margins, the paper seems worn out, probably owing to an intervention of restoration on the paper. Jacob (Johann Christian Jacob) Friedrich was a painter of flowers and landscapes, also known for his copper engravings and especially for his series of Roman views reproduced from the engravings by Giovan Battista Piranesi. The view of Friedrich is identical to the one drawn by Piranesi in 1760, though in smaller dimensions. This view is rich in details and movement, a perspectival vision of the interiors of the Portico d’Ottavia, where, among the ruins, there is a market right next to the ancient Ghetto. This artwork is shipped from Italy. Under existing legislation, any artwork in Italy created over 70 years ago by an artist who has died requires a licence for export regardless of the work’s market price. The shipping may require additional handling days to require the licence according to the final destination of the artwork. See less
