Still Life is a superb original oil painting on board, realized around 1870 by the British artist, the best known … Read more Still Life is a superb original oil painting on board, realized around 1870 by the British artist, the best known English still life artist of that time, Edward Ladell (1821-1886). A rich game is layed down on the food of a big three, in a lush nature. A full mastery of the oil technique and an incredible fluidity of brushstrokes is demonstrated here. In excellent conditions except for some peeling of color on the right margin, this defect does not affect the image, the beauty is preserved. Including a golden frame, this is a really precious piece to collect jealously. Little is known of the Edward Ladell's personal life, other than that he spent his teenage years working for his father who was a coach builder. Although he was self-taught, it is thought that he may have apprenticed as a pattern designer for a Flemish textile company in Colchester when he was a young man. The artist went on to exhibit at the Royal Academy, the British Institute, and the Royal Society of British Artists. He died on November 9, 1886, in Exeter, United Kingdom. Today, his works are held in the collections of the Museum of Croydon in London, the Royal Albert Museum in Exeter, and the Mercer Art Gallery in Harrogate. See less
