Oil painting on canvas. Golden wood frame included. Very interesting artwork representing a view on the old city of Rome with a landscape on the background. The figures emerge from the green landscape and from the architectures; people on the foreground are drinking and singing. The whole scene was inspired by the views of another important artist: Jacob de Heusch. Jacob de Heusch (Utrecht, 1657 - Amsterdam, 1701) was a Dutch painter. He studied painting with his uncle Willem. He moved to Rome and then in 1696 he went to Venice; his work shows landscape scenes of Rome and of the Italian countryside. In 1699, the artist went back to Utrecht, where he died two years later. Jacob de Heusch is one of the Dutch artists that visited Rome for a long period during the second half of the XVII century. The artwork was realized by the Italian artist Giovanni Ghisolfi (Milan, 1623 - 1683). In 1650, at the age of twenty-seven, he moved to Rome with his friend Antonio Busca; in Rome, he realized several artworks of views of the city and views on the ruins with ancient temples from the Classical period. He was very appreciated by Neoclassical artists during the mid-XIX century. In 1661, when he went back to Rome, he decorated the chapel of the charterhouse of Pavia and, in 1664, he went to Vicenza to realize landscape frescoes for private residences. He also realized several works for Palazzo Arese Borromeo at Cesano Maderno and for Villa Reati in Lissone. He also realized an altarpiece commissioned by the Beroldingen family with the Miracle of Saint Biagio in the church of Saint Biagio and Macario at Magliaso. This artwork is shipped from Italy.
