Kalmar has the name Ice Glass apparently more than deserved. The lined glass icicles form the lamp shade and sees a real ice sculpture strikingly similar. When switched on and flooded with light, the ice glass casts beautiful shadows pattern on the surrounding walls and generates despite icy vision a pleasant warmth in the room.
J.T. Kalmar lived and worked in Austria and won already with young years of extensive design experience in the company of his father, who had specialized and other objects made of bronze cast in candlesticks and Kalmar took himself later. Throughout his career, Kalmar designed lighting for many renowned architects designed also for important institutions like the Vienna Opera, the Burgtheater and the Vienna Stock Exchange. In the last decade of his life developed Kalmar a number of very popular lighting collections, including the Ice Glass collection.
