Deep bolection moldings frame each door. The panels are shaped at the corners, and a lobed medallion sits at the center of each door, giving the facade a strong, balanced rhythm. A bold stepped cornice crowns the top, and a heavy molded base rests on square feet carried down from the stiles.
The design keeps the simplicity of Louis XIV and starts to show the curving ornament that would bloom in the Régence. Country workshops stayed fond of the style well into the 1700s. Their clients asked for what they knew and loved, and tastes in the provinces changed slowly. The result is a provincial armoire of sturdy proportion and handsome restraint.
The armoire is built with pegged mortise and tenon joinery and keeps its long iron pin hinges with turned finials and its pierced iron escutcheons. The oak shows its natural grain and the warm patina it has gained over nearly three centuries.
The doors open wide for use as an entertainment center or excellent storage. One shelf is included. If an additional shelf is required, please contact us for an estimate.
