The beautifully distressed surface has been lightly scraped to reveal areas of natural pine beneath, while remnants of white paint add further depth and character to the aged finish. This substantial cupboard combines traditional European country craftsmanship with practical display and storage.
A carved crown features dentil molding and a central leaf motif. Additional floral and decorative carving embellishes the raised section above the lower cabinet. The lower doors are accented with traditional vertical fluted carving, while bun feet support the substantial form.
The upper section features two glass doors, ideal for displaying collections, dishes, or decorative objects. A contrasting green painted interior provides a colorful backdrop, while adjustable shelves allow flexibility when arranging items of different heights.
The old key and lock remain functional, although the upper doors secure more effectively when the left door is first held in place using its interior sliding latches. Opening the upper doors also provides access to three simple pine drawers, offering additional storage for smaller items.
The step-back construction creates an open surface above the lower cabinet, providing an attractive area for serving or displaying decorative pieces. The lower cabinet opens with a simple functioning lock and key to reveal one interior shelf, adding practical concealed storage beneath the display section.
Age related wear is visible throughout, including nicks, gouges, scratches, and cracks consistent with the cupboard's history. The original painted finish displays characteristic distress, with areas of exposed natural wood. Residual signs of old dried wormhole activity are also present but are no longer active. See photos of back to understand the level of distress (old repairs also seen).
Restored, stable, and ready to use. A distinctive Hungarian country cupboard with original painted character, decorative carving, glass-front display, and generous storage.
