The richly ornamented top displays an intricate composition of scrolling foliate motifs, floral decoration, and elaborate arabesques executed in contrasting ivory, cream, and darker tones against a richly patterned ground. The detailed scagliola work demonstrates the decorative artistry and craftsmanship associated with traditional Italian pietra dura-inspired ornamental techniques.
The rectangular top is outlined with a dark molded border, providing an elegant contrast to the elaborate central decoration. The table is raised on a magnificent sculptural giltwood base, distinguished by its exuberant Baroque style. The finely carved supports incorporate scrolling acanthus leaves, volutes, floral elements, and decorative cartouches, with an elaborately carved central stretcher connecting the supports. The richly gilded finish accentuates the depth and dimensionality of the carving, creating a striking interplay of light and shadow.
The combination of the highly decorative scagliola surface and the sculptural gilded base makes this an impressive example of 19th-century Italian decorative furniture, reflecting the enduring influence of the Baroque tradition and the sophisticated ornamental culture of southern Italy. An outstanding statement piece suitable for a formal living room, salon, or grand interior. The table measures 18.5 inches high by 45.25 inches long and 21.5 inches wide.
