A pair of identical celadon porcelain bottle vases from Japan that are hand painted with scenery, birds and flowers.
The pair of artistic hand painted bottle vases with long slender necks, a globular body, and colorful floral, foliage, and bird motifs over a light green-tinted glaze. Their flat unglazed base shows white porcelain. There are Japanese characters in red on the bases that reads 西浦造 (read right-to-left as Nishiura zō), which translates to "Made by Nishiura."
This is the maker's mark of Nishiura Enji (specifically the 5th or 6th generation), a highly celebrated studio pottery manufacturer operating during the late Meiji period (1868–1912) in Tajimi (Mino/Seto region), Japan. Pieces produced by his company are known as Nishiura-yaki (Nishiura ware) and are renowned for their delicate underglaze decorations, beautiful celadon backgrounds, and high-quality craftsmanship, often winning awards at international World's Fairs.
