The simplicity of its directoire design allows the beauty of this table’s material to take center stage. The tabletop consists of 2 wide walnut planks and 2 semicircular drop leaves that unfold to form a spacious oval top where incredible swirling woodgrain combines with a rich patina to create a nicely varied surface. The wood is in good condition with minimal signs of wear, consistent with its age and continued use. Visible throughout the piece are the wooden dowels carefully fitted into the joinery, which not only inform us of the table’s construction but attest to the skills of the craftsmen who made it. Four square, tapered legs support the top and are capped with brass sabots atop casters for easy repositioning. This table can comfortably accommodate 6 people and is well suited for dining spaces across a range of decorating styles with its restrained design and fine craftsmanship. Gently cleaned and polished with a French paste wax, ready for use in your interiors. We believe this to be in good antique condition considering the age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos.
