The frame features a series of tiny anthemions and acanthus leaves hand-carved in striking detail, images that perfectly capture the Louis XVI style’s taste for classical motifs. The gilding has become beautifully worn over the years, and in several parts of the frame, we can see the exposed red bole over which the gold leaf was applied to create a warm glow. A border carved with lamb’s tongue molding surrounds the original stacked mirror plates, the edges of which showcase breathtaking sparkles in the glass–results of the mercury mirror backing’s oxidation with time–which add another layer of beauty to this incredible piece. With its height and finely aged appearance, this mirror is sure to make an impressive statement in any space it enters. Gently cleaned and ready for use in your home. We believe this to be in good antique condition considering the age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos.
