Lucia Lopez Cubist figurative study, charcoal, pastel on paper, presented in a vintage gilt frame, matted and under glass. Original drawing, signed by the artist lower right. From a cataloged collection of the artists work, #246. A COA from our gallery will accompany the work.
Lucia Lopez, a compelling Cuban artist known as “Lulo,” had a transformative career spanning the 1950s to the 1980s. As the trusted guardian of a prominent Cuban art collector’s estate, she preserved and restored a collection fractured by the Cuban Revolution, often recreating lost masterpieces through her artistic vision.
Lopez’s bold exploration of Cubist forms and figurative studies blended tradition with modern innovation. Her oil paintings, pulsating with emotion and complexity, reflected the turbulent cultural landscape of mid-century Cuba.
Exhibiting at the collector’s estate and later in Florida, her art bridged two worlds, speaking to themes of loss, love, and resilience. Though she passed away in 2011, her legacy endures through a carefully preserved body of work that continues to captivate and inspire.
