This exceptional piece represents the height of late 19th-century weaving from the Peking region, known for its bold designs and superb wool quality. It is a striking example of antique rugs that prioritize graphic impact over dense ornamentation.

The composition is defined by the powerful contrast between the luminous ivory figures and the deep, saturated indigo field. This rich, highly desirable shade of blue provides a dramatic canvas for the mythological scene, placing it among the most compelling blue color rugs of the period.

The dramatic central panel features a powerful, stylized deity flanked by two formidable guardian beasts. The mythological scene is softened by scattered celestial elements and simple, stylized floral rugs that fill the deep indigo field, balancing the intensity of the protectors.

Given its dimensions, this piece functions perfectly as a highly decorative accent. Its exceptional graphic quality and strong, defined lines make it a unique statement piece, ideal for collectors seeking small scatter size rugs with historical significance and unparalleled visual presence. See less
