This exceptional Chinese Peking rug from the 1930s showcases the sophisticated restraint characteristic of the era. Hand-knotted in fine wool, the expansive field is dominated by an elegant antique Ivory color, providing a luminous backdrop for the traditional motifs.

The design employs a beautifully open composition, utilizing scattered vignettes and small, stylized elements rather than a dense, repeating pattern. A subtle, circular medallion anchors the center, surrounded by delicate vases, butterflies, and sprays of blossoms, defining it as one of the most distinctive floral rugs of the period.

In sharp contrast to the serene ivory field, the multi-layered border system utilizes rich tones of indigo and cerulean blue, framing the central space with geometric fretwork and continuous vines. This balance of negative space and vibrant containment elevates the piece beyond mere utility, placing it firmly among highly collectible antique rugs.

Measuring a generous size, this piece is designed to command a primary living space. The soft, durable wool construction ensures longevity, while the elegant color palette remains versatile enough to complement both traditional and modern interiors. Its generous room size makes it an ideal foundation for sophisticated design schemes. See less
