A beautiful early 19th-century French religious print depicting the Holy Family, illustrating the biblical episode entitled L'Ange ordonne à Joseph de retourner en Judée (The Angel Orders Joseph to Return to Judea).
The finely detailed composition portrays the Virgin Mary holding the infant Jesus, accompanied by Saint Joseph, while an angel appears to deliver the divine message. The scene is set within a classical landscape featuring architectural columns, trees and distant mountains.
The print bears the inscriptions "Duvivier Del." and "Forget Sc.", identifying the original designer and engraver. It was published in Paris by Bulla, at Rue Saint-Jacques No. 38, as recorded in the original printed inscription.
The presence of the original publisher's address, the artist and engraver signatures, the bilingual French and Spanish explanatory text, and the legal deposit inscription "Déposé" make this an interesting example of early 19th-century European religious printmaking.
Presented in a substantial dark wooden frame with a light-coloured mount, the artwork retains its historical character and decorative appeal.
An attractive collector's piece for enthusiasts of antique religious art, French engravings and European devotional imagery.
