The upper drawers sit flush within the main carcase, flanked on both sides by prominent canted corners that travel smoothly down the upright stiles. Below the mid-rail, the cupboard doors are detailed with shaped moulding that creates an eight-sided, clipped-corner panel, highlighting the natural movement and figure of the mahogany wood. The drawers demonstrate careful traditional cabinetmaking joinery, constructed with fine dovetail joints visible along the drawer sides and fitted with solid secondary timber bases. Both drawers slide cleanly along internal runners and retain their pierced openwork brass backplates with central swinging bail handles. Beneath the drawers, each cupboard interior offers generous, undivided storage space behind panelled doors fitted with decorative cast drop handles. The cupboard doors close cleanly against the interior frame, maintaining sharp, tidy architectural lines across both front elevations. Substantial solid mahogany tops are finished with moulded edges and clipped front outer corners that precisely echo the canted angles of the pedestals below. At the floor, heavy stepped plinth bases provide excellent stability while repeating the chamfered profile of the upper section. The timber exhibits a deep, mellow reddish-brown colour throughout, displaying fine vertical grain along the solid side panels and rich flame figuring across the front doors and drawer fronts beneath a smooth, lustrous wax finish. Produced in England during the late Victorian era, circa 1890, these versatile pieces were originally commissioned as bedroom pot cupboards for traditional country house suites. Thanks to their compact proportions, generous storage capacity, and matching handed doors, they serve remarkably well in contemporary interiors as bedside cabinets or as occasional lamp tables in a living room or reception hallway. In terms of size, each cabinet stands 76 cm in height, with a width of 43.5 cm and a depth of 53.5 cm. See less
