The perimeter of the top is bordered by crisp leaf-and-dart moulding above a plain apron frieze, accented at the corner blocks with carved floral rosettes. Its compact rectangular footprint measures 102 cm wide by 57 cm deep, making it well proportioned for an entrance hall or drawing room pier. The supporting timber structure displays energetic Irish carving traditions, anchored by stout cabriole legs. Each corner leg is surmounted by a boldly sculpted lion mask with a flowing mane, descending to outward C-scrolls and ending in hairy paw feet resting on integral pads. Connecting the uprights below the frieze are pierced stretchers carved in continuous swags of roses, leaves, and seed pods, providing visual drama beneath the dark apron. Crafted circa 1840, the table demonstrates the dense, dark mahogany characteristic of 19th-century Irish cabinetmaking reviving early Georgian design motifs. The solid timber construction remains sturdy, with the pierced relief work retaining crisp edges and deep undercutting throughout the floral garlands and lion heads. Condition is very good overall, displaying minor surface marks and age-consistent patination across the timber. The slate top shows light wear to the marbled glaze and a few faint scratches, while the carved woodwork and stretchers remain intact and structurally sound. Standing 80.5 cm high, the table is solid, stable, and ready for display. See less
