In 1930, Finnish architect and designer Alvar Aalto (1898-1976) designed a sofa for the "Minimalist Housing" exhibition in Helsinki that could be transformed into a regular bed by folding down the backrest. This elegant and timeless sofa was, and still is, manufactured by the company Embru and distributed by Wohnbedarf AG. Our example was produced in the 1980s. It features a chrome-plated tubular steel frame and black Bakelite armrests. The original spring mattress has been professionally refurbished by an upholstery workshop in Zurich and is in excellent condition. The original wool fabric upholstery shows no unusual wear. There is no discoloration, stains, or odors. It has been cleaned and is therefore also in impeccable condition. The chrome-plated tubular steel frame has been professionally polished. The mechanism functions perfectly. The Bakelite armrests have been treated with linseed oil and polished. After all this work, the sofa is in excellent overall condition. Length 200cm, depth when unfolded 90cm. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
