Gilt wood frame; brown mat. Remark of a hay wagon. Signed in ink lower right, circa 1892.

A calm, reflective river or stream cuts through the lower half of the composition. Large, smooth boulders sit along the bottom left bank, with sparse wildflowers and grasses emerging near a line of trees. In the mid-ground, a small herd of cows are positioned near the water. One cow stands directly at the edge, leaning forward to drink or graze, while a couple of others lounge slightly farther back on the grassy flats. Across the open pasture, several modest farmhouse cottages or barns dot the horizon line. Silhouetted, slender trees frame both the left and right edges of the view, drawing focus inward toward the flat, expansive landscape. The etching captures a quiet, hazy ambiance, true to Weber's focus on romantic, naturalistic country landscapes, the piece relies heavily on delicate transitions of light and shade to emphasize the peacefulness of rural life.
