Traditionally designed as a low table for use on a raised kang platform, the piece features a long rectangular top with gracefully everted ends and a richly carved and painted base. Intricate openwork panels decorate the apron and drawer fronts, while carved corner brackets and legs add sculptural depth. The warm reddish-brown painted finish has worn naturally over generations, revealing darker tones and exposed wood beneath and creating a richly layered patina.

Its low profile and decorative carving make this table a wonderful choice as a coffee table, offering table, or low console. It can also be displayed beneath artwork or used to showcase spiritual statuary, pottery, books, and collected objects. The combination of elaborate carving, aged elm, and time-worn painted surfaces brings warmth and history to Santa Fe, boho chic, wabi-sabi, eclectic, or contemporary interiors.
