The round top rests on an octagonal pedestal base and depicts iridescent urban courtyard scenes in stunning detail, with various figures, architectural forms, and foliate imagery. The New York based father and son duo Philip and Kelvin LaVerne are renowned for melding fine art with function, with their idiosyncratic style and unique design processes. Both have extensive art education backgrounds, with Philip LaVerne studying under the Ashcan school painter John Sloan, and Kelvin studying art history, furniture design, and metal sculpting at the Parsons School of Design.
