Three doors run across the front, and each one holds a square panel of veneer laid in a geometric pattern. The grain is cut and set at angles, so the panels read as pinwheels and chevrons that catch the light differently from every side. Small keyholes sit at the center of each door, and the plain overhanging top lets the panels do the talking.

The cabinet stands on splayed, tapering legs under a shaped plinth, a French design of the 1950s and early 1960s that lightens a long, low piece. At 84 5/8 inches wide, it can serve as a dining room buffet, a media console or an entry piece, and its 21 1/4 inch depth is shallow enough for a hallway.

The mahogany is rich and even, and the geometric panels are the standout detail. Together they make this a sideboard that works with both mid-century and traditional interiors. See less
