One holds a small green cup, one cradles a pipa lute against her shoulder and the third raises a hand to her shoulder, each with a high topknot crowned by a painted red flower and a calm, softly painted face. This vintage set of three Chinese sancai glazed figures follows the style of the Tang dynasty, when the three-color lead glaze was used for figures of court ladies, musicians and attendants. Rubbed glaze, chipped bases and fine crazing give each figure a lived-in look.

The tallest figure stands 19.5 inches, and the three vary slightly in height, so they group naturally on a console, mantel or shelf. The amber and green add a strong color accent to neutral rooms and sit well with dark wood, plaster and Asian-inspired decor.
