Its octagonal top rests … Read more A Dutch Amsterdam School occasional table from the 1920s, crafted in teak with black-stained decorative accents. Its octagonal top rests on four supports, each embellished with an elongated, pencil-like ornament capped by a black pointed tip. Rounded contours soften the construction at towards the base.

The warm colouring and expressive grain of the teak contrast beautifully with the black details. Architectural yet playful, the design gives this modestly sized piece a distinctive presence.

Tables of closely related design were sold by De Bijenkorf, one of the Netherlands’ best-known department stores. A period photograph showing a comparable example is included in the accompanying images.

The table is sturdy and in very good expertly restored condition, very suitable for use as a side, - plant or lamptable or as accent piece
