This magnificent example of late 19th-century Chinese weaving presents a commanding presence, suitable for grand interiors. Its generous proportions classify it among true room size rugs, offering expansive coverage while maintaining visual refinement and historical integrity.

The palette is defined by a serene, pale celadon ground, beautifully contrasted by deep indigo outlines and details. This sophisticated use of color is characteristic of the finest Peking production, making it a stellar example of blue color rugs from the period. The open field is sparsely populated with traditional auspicious symbols and scattered floral sprays, allowing the luminous ground color to dominate the composition.

Traditional Chinese iconography dominates the design, featuring stylized vases, cloud bands, and geometric Shou symbols surrounding a prominent central medallion. The border system reinforces the elegance of the piece, incorporating intricate fretwork and delicate repeating floral motifs that frame the central composition perfectly, demonstrating the weaver's mastery of classical Chinese design principles.

Crafted from high-quality wool, this rug possesses the soft handle and durability expected of turn-of-the-century Chinese textiles. Pieces of this age and condition are increasingly sought after by collectors and designers alike, valued for their unique aesthetic and cultural significance. It stands as a superb representation of enduring quality within the category of antique rugs. See less
